What’s this about?
At im.wordpress.com we have been experimenting with instant delivery of blog posts and comments. We started by providing a firehose for our partners but that was only the beginning. Now you can subscribe to WordPress.com blogs in your Jabber IM client and receive posts and comments the instant they are published. It is also possible to post to blogs from the chat client. In time we plan to add these real-time features to web pages. Soon the conversations on blogs will be as fast as chat rooms.

Our Jabber service is open to anyone with a WordPress.com account. Please see our Jabber support section for help setting up your connection.
More details
This service is an experiment. It comes with some great features and some limitations.
- Choose a Jabber client that can receive HTML messages. We like Adium on a Mac or Pidgin on Windows, but there are many clients to choose from.
- Befriend bot@im.wordpress.com. This is how you will manage your subscriptions in Jabber. We plan on adding a web interface, too.
- You can subscribe to any blog you can access on the web. Use its internet domain to subscribe, e.g. andy.wordpress.com or icanhascheezburger.com.
- There is no limit on the number of blog subscriptions. This may change.
- If you go offline we will save up to 100 messages and deliver them when you return. This number may change.
- You must connect to our Jabber servers to subscribe. We are not ready to deliver messages to accounts on other Jabber services such as Jabber.org or Google Talk. This will change.
- You can post to a blog by sending it a message. For safety, this feature is off by default. Try responding to a blog post in Jabber to see what we mean.
